 Mirror Magic

The symbolism of the mirror has a deep magical implication. It is believed that the mirror is able to introduce us to our own soul and even reveal the secrets of abundance and attractiveness.

Sense of Magic

The mirror is a special energy tool that can work miracles. Its magical properties have been known to mankind since ancient times. Myths about the Roman goddess Venus, the Egyptian Hathor, and the Japanese goddess Ishikoridome are all associated with mirrors.

Mirrors remember every event that has ever been reflected in them and are capable of connecting the energies of the astral realm and the physical world, to absorb and give back energy.

Enchanting

✶ Any reflecting surface has the same magical power as the mirror. Therefore, if your current wish is to receive a material item, perform a simple ritual: while walking around the city, look at your reflection in the window of a store that you like. Smile and imagine yourself with this thing, feel the energy of this moment. After a while your wish will come true.

✶ Each time you see yourself in the mirror, mentally draw the image you are striving for over your reflection. Imagine a golden stream transform you into that person. After that, walk proudly and confidently to conquer the world.

✶ When you place mirrors opposite each other and stand between them, you create a special portal. You can send any thought into it, and, having been reflected in many possible worlds, it will definitely come back to you and come true.

✶ Mirror boxes are a powerful magical object. As in the previous ritual, they reflect each other thereby infinitely multiplying any energy. Put a picture corresponding to your intention in such a box — it can be a sigil or any other symbol — and this power will augment every day.

✶ By placing a mirror opposite the source of negative energy you will send the negative impulse back. Therefore, in any situation that you dislike, visualize a big mirror between you and the external environment, facing the world, and with its opposite side facing you. Before going outside you can build a mirror protection around yourself, visualizing a wall of mirrors, a mirror cocoon surrounding you from all sides. The mirrors should face outward.

✶ To decorate your interior and attract energy of the sort that you require, you can cover the frame of the mirror with appropriate stones and minerals.

Useful Tips

✶ The shape of the mirror is significant for its successful use for magical purposes. Each shape has a magical meaning, according to which you can attract the necessary energy into your life.

Round and oval mirrors symbolize the energy of Venus. They are associated with the circle of life, cycles and unity and used for establishing harmony in your home and success in self-improvement.

Squares and rectangles symbolize balance and control over life situations. It is a reliable and powerful force, based on the symbolism of the four elements. Such mirrors are used to attract stability.

The octagon stands for energy and power. It has a special significance in the concept of feng shui and Western spiritual schools as a symbol of the main and additional sides of the world, as well as the eight sun festivals. It blocks unwanted energies, strengthens abilities, and improves health.

✶ It is believed that concave mirrors absorb energy, while convex mirrors repel it.

✶ Just as all magical objects, mirrors need to be cleansed and charged. To do that, it is enough to clean it once a month any way you like and place it under the moonlight or sunlight.

✶ If the mirror is used for practice, it should be covered with a thick, dark cloth at all other times.

Stones for Winter

 Magical Stones For Winter

We've turned back the clocks and Hallows Eve has passed, now we welcome the holidays and the winter of the year. Winter is a time of introspection, journeying within and remembering. While all the preparations for the holidays begin, take time for yourself, not only to rest and restore on a physical level, but especially on a spiritual and emotional level. The energies of this season, Winter, help us journey down deep into ourselves to remember and find answers.

When journeying, I like to either hold stones in my hands or enclose myself in a stone grid. Pocket or palm sized stones work very well for this. Stones can be held in the hands while sitting in a comfortable, cozy chair or lying down in soothing surroundings. Placing stones in a circle, at four points (head, feet, right hand and left) or even in a triangular pattern  (head, side of left foot and side of right foot) around you, works very well for making an energetic boundary that focuses energies, intention and also protects. There are many ways to surround yourself with stones, use your imagination.

Here is a bit of information about three of my favorite stones that I like to use for this work. 

The first is quartz crystal, either points or smooth polished pocket stones. The points are great for directing energy, but the polished stones, especially when used in a circle or four points grid, make a gently swirling, encompassing energy vortex. Crystal quartz is an energy amplifier and willingly will assist us. It is also a stone of memory, helping us to "remember" on a spiritual level. In meditation it can enhance one's journeying experience by bringing back to us details and information long forgotten from other lives, dreams and spiritual encounters. One can also gaze into the crystal for divination.

Citrine can assist in opening the third eye and clearing heavy, burdensome energies, making it a perfect helper stone for journeying work. It works to open the way to clearly seeing and accepting information in a positive light, as a mother energy gently guiding. The beautiful citrine is also a stone of manifestation, helping us bring thoughts and desires to fruition. It surrounds one with a golden, healing, positive energy.

Selenite is another stone helper that assists in opening the third eye. It also opens the crown and soul chakras as well making it a good companion for journey and meditative work. Selenite is a perfect ally for reinforcing energy grids, so it is an amazing stone to be surrounded by. It can assist in clearing the blockages that keep us from "remembering" and moving forward with the information received from spiritual realms. It enhances our inner vision allowing us access to past lives and assisting during divination. I keep pieces of selenite with each of my divination tools.  Placing two selenite points at one's front door re-enforces protective energies in the home.

These are just three of the many stones that can assist us, on all levels and in many ways. Each stone has a spirit within, just as we do, as plants, animals, all beings. They are waiting for you to make contact and connection.

Sweet Scents

 Three favorite spices of mine are cinnamon, cloves, and ginger. They are very uplifting, and make me feel cozy and protected. And there’s a good reason for that… they are, in fact, highly protective and do a wonderful job of banishing harmful, negative energies. They can break a hex and clear bad luck. These spices bring in joyful energies while doing their clearing work too.

This powder can be blended any time you have need. Use equal parts of the powdered spices, blend together well, awaken and enchant in you usual manner. This powder may then be sprinkled in corners, on window sills, at doorsteps. You may also place the powder in pouches and hang or tuck about in your home. They may also be burned on a charcoal or used in a simmer pot. The whole or chopped dried spices can be placed in a pretty dish for a protective and cleansing potpourri.

As I use these wonderful and helpful spices, I chant the following:

Scent of cinnamon, clove, and ginger,

Clear away all that will injure.

Let them not ever rest here, 

Let them now forever be cleared.

In their place bring joy and cheer,

Forevermore to rest here!

A Simple Yule Ritual

This Yule Ritual is simple, Goddess-centered/Dianic, and can be adjusted for solitary or group gatherings. The original version is by Geraldine Andrew, who included it in a Dianic Wheel of the Year series.

The ritual space should be decorated for the season, as you like. Place four white candles at the quarters and another white candle on the altar. Other candles may be placed on the altar, your preferred colors to represent any goddesses you choose to honor.

Purify and bless the space, altar, and each other, then cast your circle and call the quarters in your preferred manner. Call the Goddesses while holding hands and chanting this three times, then lighting the Goddess candles:

Old Wise One, Shining Silver Hag, Dark Mother, 

Take us in.

Old Wise One, Shining Silverq Hag, Dark Mother,

Let us be reborn.

Everyone now sits down to prepare their “giveaways” - words, sachets of herbs, or objects that symbolize what each woman wants or needs to release, let go of. Paper and pens should be available. Each woman should have prepared any other item she would wish to include in advance as her giveaway and brought with her. Alternatively, with herbs available, something may be made, again focusing on what needs to be released. Herbs for releasing, a cauldron with prepared charcoal, should also be available.

Focus energy on the letting go while tapping, clapping, drumming, or using rattles or sistrums in the background as each woman prefers. When ready you may chant the following as many times as needed or wanted:

To die and be reborn,

Cleansed and purified,

During the longest night 

As the Wheel of the Year turns,

We now release what no longer serves us.

Women now may speak out words or sentences of

that which they need to release. They will also light the papers that they have written on on fire and toss into a cauldron at the center of the altar. 

The Hag, Dark Mother, Old One is now invoked into one woman to finish the releasing by cutting all ties to 

what has been released. The Hag will go to each woman to receive the giveaway item. In turn the Hag gives the woman a boline to hold, feel, to connect with the Hag. She then returns the boline to the Hag who then draws three Xs over the woman’s head.

The Hag then embraces each woman.

Welcome December

Thanksgiving & Gratitude

 Thanksgiving has become a political bone of contention. Not for me. I honor this day by being grateful for all blessings in my life. It isn’t anything to do with history, it’s about my gratitude. 

I have very fond memories of Thanksgiving through my life. I realize that is not the case for everyone. However, if someone had a bad mother, should all of us not celebrate Mother’s Day?

I do not celebrate the Pilgrims, I celebrate joy, family, friendship, good food, laughter. I acknowledge the good in my life even in these times of chaos. 

The Goddesses have given us so much, some more than others. Okay. I am still grateful for what I have, the beauty I see everyday, friendships, my own harvests and those of friends.

If you choose not to celebrate as I do or many others, I honor that. I am grateful for the freedom to do so. And that is a very good point. Freedom of spiritual belief, freedom of religion, freedom to be grateful in our own ways.

So with that said, I share here a prayer I was inspired to write as a blessing before meals. And whatever and however you choose to celebrate on Thursday, May it bring you the blessings of that which you need.

Great Mother, Mistress, 

Governess of all the Elements, 

Queen of the Universe, Creatress Divine,

To You we give our gratitude 

for all blessings and lessons 

You bestow upon us.

An Oath to Mother Earth

 Despite having Sun and moon fire signs, I am so deeply of the Earth. The feel of soil in my hands or beneath my feet is comforting. All plant life, animals, stones, rivers, lakes, the seas, I find beauty and connection to all. Mountains call me, plants talk to me as does the land itself. And… I do what I am able to help this world.

So… I saw a prayer today that started out With a Wiccan heart and a witch’s might. I am not Wiccan so it wasn’t right for me, but the prayer was to honor and protect Mother Earth, an oath. It inspired the following which made my heart and soul feel so good. I share it here with you.

Oath to Mother Earth

With a Witch’s heart

And a Witch’s might,

I swear an oath 

Of magick bright,

To honor and protect

Our Mother Earth.

To believe in Her magick

With all my worth.

To love and protect

Her children of all kinds,

To Plants, animals, 

To Her’s I am entwined.

Full Moon Money Spell

 

Tomorrow, November 8, is the Full Moon. Everything seems to be getting more and more expensive as I’m sure you’ve noticed. Here’s a money spell for that full moon.

Gather a green candle, nine coins, a green or gold pouch or piece of fabric with red ribbon or yarn, some dried basil, dill, and cinnamon, a small cauldron, some blessed water. A small towel.

Charge your candle for bringing money, then light it. Add water to the cauldron until about half fill, now add your nine coins. If you can’t be outside, go to a window where you can see the moon and chant three times:

Oh Great Mother of the Moon,
Please bring to me money soon.
Let money come, forever flowing,
Plenty and more, forever growing! 

While the candle still burns, take the coins from the cauldron slowly and carefully placing them into a cloth 

as if something being born, and dry. Now place them into your pouch or cloth, add the herbs after you have charged them to awaken and bring money. Close your pouch or gather up your cloth and twist. Tie nine knots 

to close pouch. Go back to where you can see the moon, and repeat the chant three times more Let the candle burn out on its own. Take the cauldron outside and pour the water onto the earth, dry and place the pouch in the cauldron, repeat the chant three more times, then leave over night. In the morning, place the pouch in your handbag or the place where you keep

your financial things.

Protection

 Today I chose the 9th card after shuffling Seasons of the Witch Samhain Oracle, Number 29, Protection was the card.

There are always things in this world… and the other, to frighten us, make us feel uncomfortable, cause us anxiety. It is, after all, a frightening and cruel world. However, as witches, healers, and just women in the mundane world, we’ve experienced our share of this throughout our lives. 

As this card informs, despite all of that, we are protected. Within us is a place we can retreat to, a place to heal, find comfort, be restored. In this place, we cannot be harmed or shaken. We are well armored, we just don’t always remember it.

This card reminds us that we need only retreat to this space and step through the veil into the arms of our Ancestors and guides, those who love us.We need only to remember They are there and speak to Them, ask for there guidance and support. We have the power and Their additional assistance whenever we need it.

Once we know our own power and that of our Ancestors, really know, we will know protection is there. We must see the world and our lives as they are, warts and all, yet find the blessings and strengths. And there are more strengths in us than anything else. Stand strong, wild, and knowing. We are protected.

2 cups vanilla ice cream 

2 Oz vodka 

2 Oz Godiva White Chocolate Liqueur

Let ice cream soften a bit then add all ingredients into a blender. Blend until smooth and serve. Makes 1 serving.

Deep Into The Waning Time

 October, my crone-self is much closer to the surface of my being. I contemplate and remember more. I sit and wonder how I got here so quickly. Honestly, in my head I still feel 20, but much wiser. If only I knew then what I knew now.

However, that is a waste of time. My goal is to simply enjoy the magick of each day and get the most out of it. I feel closer to the Ancestors at this time of my life and know they are around me. It’s not just the season, but the season of my life. And not just the bloodline Ancestors, but those of my breed. My breed? Yes, the witches and healers, the women who were ahead of there time - they are also sisters, mothers, grandmothers of who I am. 

I honor them with candles and incense, offerings that are taken to their Underworld. But the best way I know to honor them is to remember them. I think about them, their struggles and tears, but there joys too, their magick, their sense of accomplishment. 

Some of these Ancestors were very alone in their work, their magick, but no longer. Now they are all together, celebrating, teaching with thoughts that they share. Most of the breed, we didn’t know them or even know about them. They weren’t famous or even remembered anywhere but in the hearts of women like me. And so, I honor them.

Remember those woman who did secretly what we do openly. Open your hearts to them. Tell them, I don’t know your name, but I remember you. No, we do not forget them for they live on within us.

Autumn Equinox Blessings

 Autumn Equinox Blessings. 

A Spell For Peace & Happiness

A little magick for your home is a good practice. While browsing through my Book of Soells, I found this. All the items needed are common kitchen herbs and spices. The others items needed are easily found and you may very well have them in your home.

I have cast this spell many times over the years and suggested its use by others with much success. Everyone can use a little extra peace and happiness in the home, don’t you think?

A Spell For Peace And Happiness In The Home

Perform this spell after the first crescent of the new moon appears. Energetically cleanse your home in whatever manner you usually do.

You will need;

an orange or Happy Home* candle

lavender buds, rose petals, wood betony, Rosemary, cumin seeds and cinnamon. 

three drops each of bergamot, clove and vanilla oils (a teaspoon of pure vanilla extract may be used instead of vanilla oil) plus a touch extra for candle anointing. 

Matches or lighter

A pink, lavender colored, or white pouch

Candle holder

A bit of glitter if you have some

Some rose quartz piece to surround your candle and pouch.

Mix herbs and oils together well and enchant in the usual manner. Place the mixture into a  small pouch. Keep this with the candle as it burns. You will then place it in a closet, cupboard, or somewhere around the home, hidden from view.

If you are using a plain orange candle, anoint with a touch of each oil, and sprinkle with a tiny pinch of glitter, enchanting for purpose If using the Happy Home candle, you may anoint with a bit of oil and add some glitter, then awaken and ask for the candle’s assistance for your purpose.

Place the candle in its hold, pouch nearby, and surround with pieces of rose quartz.

Burn the candle for three hours each evening until it is completely consumed. Chant this charm three times after lighting:

Peace and happiness fill our place,                                All is well in our family’s space!

Any candle remnants may be added to you pouch.

Cleansing Prayer 

Smoke and fire, Earth and air,

Cleanse and bless this home with care.

In the Lady’s name I make it so,

All harm and bane released must go.

By the Lady Mother that I revere,

Only good now enters here.

With gratitude I freely send

To my Lady without end.

You Are Becoming You

 I took a bit of poetic license with this so I would be talking to the Goddess.

Me: Hey Goddess.

Goddess : Hello.....

Me: I'm falling apart. Can you put me back together?

Goddess: I would rather not.

Me: Why?

God: Because you aren't a puzzle.

Me: What about all of the pieces of my life that are falling down onto the ground?

Goddess : Let them stay there for a while. They fell off for a reason. Take some time and decide if you need any of those pieces back.

Me: You don't understand! I'm breaking down!

Goddess : No - you don't understand. You are breaking through. What you are feeling are just growing pains. You are shedding the things and the people in your life that are holding you back. You aren't falling apart. You are falling into place. Relax. Take some deep breaths and allow those things you don't need anymore to fall off of you. Quit holding onto the pieces that don't fit you anymore. Let them fall off. Let them go.

Me: Once I start doing that, what will be left of me?

Goddess : Only the very best pieces of you.

Me: I'm scared of changing.

Goddess : I keep telling you - YOU AREN'T CHANGING!! YOU ARE BECOMING!

Me: Becoming who?

Goddess : Becoming who I created you to be! A person of light and love and charity and hope and courage and joy and mercy and grace and compassion. I made you for more than the shallow pieces you have decided to adorn yourself with that you cling to with such greed and fear. Let those things fall off of you. I love you! Don't change! ... Become! Become! Become who I made you to be. I'm going to keep telling you this until you remember it.

Me: There goes another piece.

Goddess : Yep. Let it be.

Me: So ... I'm not broken?

Goddess: Of course Not! - but you are breaking like the dawn. It's a new day. Become!!!

Thinking of the Crone

Good morning! I am awake early this morning and thinking about being a crone and the Divine Crone. When did this happen, that I have reached this age… and with so much to do still? Aging can be frightening, but more than that it is glorious. Personally, I have been able to let go of things that made me miserable but now I know were really not important. So I embrace my age and love this body and mind and soul - ah, there’s the one, my soul! I am aware of my inner self, my deep heart, my divine essence. I strongly feel and know them. That feels good and right so I better get busy with all those things I still have to do! First, some prayers, a candle and incense to light, my morning devotions, at this time of the year, honoring the Divine Crone.

 Good Sunday morning and many blessings. I am struggling a bit with shingles - gotta love the Crone years. However, I am doing well for the most part, but this morning I am having a bit of a flare up. 

To take my mind off it, I went browsing the internet and found a little prayer to the Universe. This inspired a daily short prayer to the Mother Goddesses. I am a firm believer in daily devotions, even just little ones. So I share it here.

Light a candle, perhaps a stick of incense, and recite three times.

A Daily Prayer

Oh Blessed Mothers I come to You,

With honor and love, blessings too.

Give me strength to face my day

Whatever it is that comes my way.

With love I open to what may be,

I light this flame’s power times three.

As Your loving blessings always assist me,

So I shall be the best I can be.

With honor and love, blessings too,

With strength from the Great Mothers,

It is made true.
