Summertime

www.etsy.com/listing/1003340950/sandersons-summer-paper-chart

So here we are once again around the wheel to summer, with her heat and sunshine and summer storms. Long days at lake or ocean. Everything is in bloom, foliage is the green green of growth, and there’s magick all around.

As we close in on the Summer Solstice, Midsummer, many people turn their minds to the Fae and their magick. I found this collection of fairy herbs on line purported to be from a 17th grimoire. I can’t prove that, but perhaps you will find it interesting.

FAIRY HERBS AND THEIR CHARMS

This is supposed to be from a 17th century work
from http://pjentoft.com/fairy-herbs1.html

                               * Bluebells *

to attract faeries to dance in your garden. On Beltane eve, make an  ankle braclet of "Bluebells" and "jingle" bells to attract helpful fae  folk to  you.

                                  * Clover *
 A sacred faery plant, clovers of all kinds will attract them. Lay seven  grains of wheat on a four-leafed clover to see the Faery.

                               * Elderberry *

 Used to make Faery wine, these berries can be burned on a fire to invite  the Good Folk to a gathering. Make a homemade brew of Elderberry Wine
 and you are sure to have some thirsty visitors. It is said that if a  human  drinks the wine, she will be able to see the Faery. If a human should  drink  Elderberry wine from the same goblet as a Faery being, he will be able  to  see them forever after.

                             * Elecampagne *

Also known as Elfswort. This root can be scattered around the home to  attract the Sidhe. It can be added to any magick or spell to invoke  Faery  blessing.

                             * Foxglove *

The source of the modern heart drug Digitalis, Foxglove can have  seriously dangerous results if taken internally. DO NOT INGEST!!  Instead,
 plant Foxglove near your front door to invite the Faery in. Put a dried  sprig  of Foxglove in a talisman to keep you surrounded in Faery light.

                          * Heather *

Heather is said to ignite faery passions and open portals between their  world and our own. Make an offering of Heather on "Beltane" eve to  attract good fae to your garden

                               * Lilac *

The sweet scent is said to draw Fae spirits to your garden. Lilac and  primroses for midsummers eve, will please the Fae.

                             * Mistletoe *

The most sacred herb of the Druids. Mistletoe is a magickal activator.  In  Faery spells, use a dash of Mistletoe taken on Summer Solstice to  empower your workings with Faery magick.

                              * Milkweed *

Both Monarch butterflies and fairies like milkweed. If Milkweed is  planted  in a Witches garden, the fey will always be in the area. The silky  tassels of the  milkweed pods can be added to a dream pillow to not only make it softer but also to make you dream of fairies. In the Autumn when the  pods are bursting and the fluffy seeds are flying across the fields, a  wish is  granted for each seed that can be caught and then released again.

                              * Peony *

Peony seeds were once used to protect children from faeries. A garland  of  the seeds were placed around the child's neck to keep them safe.

                            * Poppies *

Said to invoke the faery into your dreams Make a dream pillow of fresh  poppies to entice the fae to your dreams.

                                 * Primrose *
 When planted in a garden or hung dried on the front door, primroses will  attract the company of Faeries. If you have them growing under your  care,  do not let them die! The Faery will be deeply offended by your  carelessness. Primroses are great in container gardens. Tie a pink ribbon  around your container of Primroses while chanting; "Sacred roses, hear my cry
 for your protection, this I tie"

                                    * Roses *

Roses attract the Faery to a garden. Their sweet scent will lure
elemental  spirits to take up residence close by. Roses can be used in Faery love spells. When performing the spell, sprinkle rose petals under your feet  and  dance softly upon them while asking the Faery for their blessing on your  magick.
 Roses are loved by the fey so you can plant Roses in your garden to  attract fairies. Wild Roses are best for this purpose.    Say  the following spell as you plant your baby Rose bush:
 "I ask a fairy from the wild,
 To come and tend this wee rose-child.
 A babe of air she thrives today,
 Root her soul in the Goddesses' good clay.
 Fairies make this twig your bower,
 By your magic shall time see her flower!"

                                  * Thyme *
 Wearing thyme will increase your ability to see the Sidhe. Sprinkle it  at the  base of your door, and on window sills to invite the Faery to enter your  home.
                                 *********

Now… before you go on and sprinkle and call, be sure, very sure, that you really want the Fae around. They can cause much mischief, even problems, and are very difficult to get rid of.

Blessings dark and bright!

Weekly Oracle, Summer Solstice and Full Moon Blessings!

Carpo - Summer Fruits
from Ancient Feminine Wisdom
of Goddesses and Heroines
by Kay Stevenson and Brian Clark

I am always, no matter how many times it happens, amazed by the appropriateness of the oracle or tarot card that presents itself for a particular day. Today is no exception with this card, Carpo - Summer Fruits.

The fiery colors of summer surround Carpo who holds Her offering of fruit to us, Her gift of plenty and richness. The summer's heat is upon us and the land, we revel in it and accept that fiery energy. The seed has burst forth, first into flower, then to fruit. And this is so in our lives. That which we have worked to accomplish comes to fruition. The wheel turns and the season of fullness comes into being. It brings a time of abundant fertility and prosperity, completion and its rewards.

Look now at what you have achieved so far, focus on these good things and more to come, for it will come. Give thanks and keep to your devotions, for this is a time of wealth and plenty in all areas of our lives, we must show gratitude for that which we have been given.

Carpo is a meteorological  goddess who provides all the elements that nature needs to flourish. And so She does for us as well. Hail and thanks to Carpo!

Summer Solstice and Full Moon blessings to all at this most perfect turning of time, when the waxing time becomes the waning. May your lives be filled with all that you need and desire.

Blessings nine!

Bits of Faerie Lore

I found this bit of faery lore while going through some old articles of mine and thought, since MidSummer is almost upon us, a time when the faery world seems to be more open to us, I would share it. The information is gleaned from various sources, some unknown,  and my personal experiences.

Come faeries, take me out of this dull world,
for I would rife with you upon the wind and dance
upon the mountains like a flame..
- W. B. Yeats -

Faeries have their own honor and ethics, therefore, when asking the assistance of the Fae, be sure you work within a sacred circle for protection, or wear a protective charm to keep yourself safe. Be sure to bring them offerings and give thanks appropriately to avoid insults. Be sure to use tools and wear charms made of silver, copper, iron, or wood held sacred by the Fae; Oak is a good choice; flint a protective stone. Not all faerie beings are friendly, some seriously dislike humans. Think carefully before calling them.

*********

How to meet faeries:

Sit beside a pond or stream where the water is still and clear, or anywhere else you sense them. Be quiet and patient. Look for faery rings, sit and wait, but never step within. Tinkle small bells or wind chimes; play a wind instrument such as a recorder, flute or penny whistle while in a meditative state. Anoint your eyelids with a bit of an infusion of elderberries, elecampane (AKA elfwort), and thyme, again, you must wait patiently.

*********

Faery Healing:

When suffering from a headache or other body aches, sit beneath a willow and allow yourself to release pain to the tree's roots and the earth beneath. The Fae can assist with healing.

When troubled by emotional concerns, sit near or beneath an evergreen of some sort. Allow yourself to release to the tree's roots and the earth, all feelings that distress you.

Learn the lore of flowers, plants and trees and you will know which ones to use for specific purposes. Each plant has its own spirit, these spirits can be the Fae.

*********
Where to find faeries:

The Fae can be found almost anywhere - in flowers and plants, trees and stones, hearths and hills, forests and lakes, streams and meadows, gardens and barns, your home  - every place has its spirits, its Fae.

*********

Faery Stones:

Quartz - clear, rose and blue (celestite); selenite, amethyst, amber, flint.

Elemental Fae:

Earth Spirits: an element most dense, represented by the Night and Winter, the Hag. Found in either the North or South, depending on craft tradition. Goblins, trolls, gnomes and Ladies. A green and receptive energy, but very strong and dominant.

Air Spirits: Intelligence, represented by Dawn and the season of Spring. Generally found in the east or north, again, depending on craft tradition. Sylphs and the Wind. A translucent light yellow, the scent of rain or a pond.

Fire Spirits: unpredictable, both creative and destructive, represented by daylight and the Summer. Found in the South in many traditions, but also in the North as well as the East - where the sun rises. Salamanders and dragons. Courage and imagination. A projective and dominant element, red/orange and the scent of burning wood or herbs.

Water Spirits: Healing, transformation, represented by Sunset and Autumn. Found in the West. Nymphs, Nereid, undines, water goblins, these spirits are found in the seas, rivers, lakes, brooks, ponds, the rain. Blue, aqua and teal, receptive.

What if you'd rather not encounter the Fae? Here are some protection charms:

Turn your clothing inside out

A piece of cold, pure iron, supposedly because it is said to represent movement away from nature.

Rowan & red thread

Oak, Ash, and Hawthorn twigs tied together

A sprinkling of fax seeds on the floor of your home

An infusion of clover and holy water is thought to break the glamour

The Song of The Queen Of The Meadow Fairy

Queen of the Meadow
where small streams are flowing,
What is your kingdom
and whom do you rule?
"Mine are the places
where wet grass is growing,
Mine are the people
of marshland and pool.

"Kingfisher-courtiers,
swift-flashing, beautiful,
Dragon-flies, minnows,
are mine one and all;
Little frog-servants who
wait round me, dutiful,
Hop on my errands
and come when I call."

Gentle Queen Meadowsweet,
served with such loyalty,
Have you no crown to wear?
"Nothing I need
for a sign of my royalty,
Nothing at all
But my own fluffy hair!"
